How does vehicle Satellite Tracking Technology work?
Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites transmit signals to equipment on the ground. Vehicle satellite tracking receivers passively receive satellite signals, they do not transmit it.
Each GPS satellite transmits data that indicates its location and the current time. All GPS satellites synchronize operations so that these signals are transmitted at the same instant. The signals, moving at the speed of light, arrive at a GPS receiver at slightly different times because some satellites are further away than others. The distance to the GPS satellites can be determined by estimating the amount of time it takes for their signals to reach the receiver. When the receiver estimates the distance to at least four GPS satellites, it can calculate its position in three dimensions. This procedure is known as Triangulation.
Our platform uses Google’s detailed mapping in conjunction with Vehicle Satellite Tracking technology to track the movement and location of vehicles and assets. The Vehicle Satellite Tracking System uses Internet (GPRS) as well as SMS text messaging, as a communication interface that allows you to control the system, sending and receiving requests for information to and from the vehicle.
What does the MT01 device consist of?
The MT01 device consists of:
- Satellite Tracking Module: this module identifies the location of the device, through data received from Global Positioning System satellites.
- Cellular Module: the device has a modem card that emulates the operation of a mobile phone, transmitting the information received from the Satellite Tracking Module to mobile networks and from there to our servers.
- Antennas: both the GPS antenna and cell phone antenna are built in the device. This is known as “Built in” technology and this has many advantages over other devices on the market.
- Backup battery: Just like cell phones, the MT01 device has a powerful 800mAh battery providing up to 160 hours of standby time and up to 9 hours of continuous transmission.
Do I have to make a monthly payment to use the device?
After purchasing one of our units, the only monthly charge will be that of a telephone line to be assigned to the device. A postpaid plan of at least 800 megabytes for data transmission (GPRS), text messaging service allowing for at least 300 SMS and a phone service charged by the second is recommended.
Can the offender find and disable the satellite device?
Given the specific characteristics of the MT01 (waterproof and anti-dust (IP65), the size of a credit card and the width of an “AA” battery as well as its “Built in” antennas), it can be installed almost anywhere in the vehicle, making it virtually impossible for the offender to locate it.
What happens if the battery of the vehicle is disconnected?
Can the MT01 device still transmit the location of the vehicle?
Yes, the MT01 device will be powered by a backup battery included despite the vehicle’s battery removal. The backup battery can keep the device working for up to 160 hours of standby time and up to 9 hours of continuous transmission.
Is the device always on?
Once the SIM card is inserted, the device is turned on and it won’t turn off until the SIM card is removed.
What if the vehicle is underground?
As with any satellite system, GPS signal is lost when entering a basement; nevertheless, this does not prevent your vehicle from being located since, if the device is scheduled to report to the platform every 5 seconds, you can have a clear idea of where it was seen for the last time, and start the search-and-rescue operations from thereby looking into nearby basements. Furthermore, and thanks to the advance in telecommunications technology, nowadays phone signals can get SMS through to third and fourth level basements. A prompt response to a criminal offence will be crucial so as to increase the chances of recovering the vehicle.
Why doesn’t the MT01 device have external antennas for cellular and satellite networks like most equipment available in the market?
Our device features cutting-edge technology, components which allow the incorporation of both antennas within the unit, just like today’s cell phones. This represents a great advantage in terms of the installation of the device, which is less intrusive and prevents possible transmission problems resulting from improper wiring.
What should I do if I have an MT01 device installed and I am about to sell or change my car?
You must contact one of our installers to coordinate removal of the equipment. The same device can be installed in another vehicle without any further configuration needed.
I am interested in purchasing an MT01 device. Who can install it in my car?
We have a group of suppliers offering professional installation services. They have been specially trained in the use and programming of our device. Please let us know at the moment of your purchase and you will be shortly contacted.
What are the advantages of a satellite tracking system versus using cell phones with GPS tracking capabilities?
Although today there are certainly a great number of applications which allow you to keep track of a mobile device from another, the MT01 device offers some additional capabilities that a phone would not be able to perform, such as the remote power off command. We could also add the issue of battery life and recharge time, among other additional functionalities.
Why installing a satellite vehicle tracking system in my car if it is insured?
While it is true that nowadays most vehicle fleets have all risk insurance coverage, other elements must be taken into account for a more in-depth analysis. In this regard, we could point out inconveniences such as failure to recover the vehicle in a short time, vehicle shortages in the market, waiting for insurance compensation which will not cover the cost of a similar vehicle under the same conditions.
How can I access the device?
We do have Android y iOS applications, as well as a platform which can be accessed from our web site; where you will always have limitless access to consult and manage your device. For this purpose, a temporary user name and password will be given to you.
What if the system cannot find my vehicle?
It is important to point out that there is no vehicle tracking system with 100% coverage. This is due to different elements that affect the information regarding the location of the vehicle, such as the fact that it might be out of the cellular network range or parked in a garage, all of which may alter GPS signals. Both atmospheric and weather conditions may also affect tracking requests and replies. Therefore the user must wait a reasonable amount of time, for it may be a case of SMS message clutter (in case the user is sending SMS requests to the device) by cellular phone service companies, or else, the signal is too weak for a GPRS connection when trying to contact the vehicle from the web.
